Brush Compost & Tree Service
Brush Pick Up

The DPW provides routine brush pickup services throughout the year. Brush is picked up on Fridays only (weather permitting) . Any brush to be picked up must be called into the DPW office at (586) 293-2001 before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday of each week. Any calls after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday will be held for pickup on the Friday of the following week. Because of the large amount of calls received, pickups that are not called in will not be picked up.
Effective April 18, 2011 there will be a $35 fee for brush pickup for the first half hour and an additional $35 for every half hour after.

The following guidelines should be followed when preparing brush for pickup:
Pile brush to be picked up neatly at curbside, with the butts of the limbs facing the street.
  • Refrain from mixing in any other rubbish, vines, thorns, or bushes in the pile.
  • Smaller bush trimmings that cannot be tied into bundles must be cut and placed in brown paper compost bag, and placed at curbside on your regular pickup day for composting.
  • All bushes removed from the ground must have the roots removed. Stumps will not be picked up by the DPW. It is the homeowners' responsibility to see to their disposal.
  • Branches cannot be more than 6 feet long and 3 inches in diameter

Compost Pick up
The compost pickup program started on Monday March 18th, 2019 and will continue through Friday December 6th, 2019.

• Place at curb on your regular trash collection day.
• Place grass in open rubbish containers marked “COMPOST” or large paper recycle bags.
• Compost put in plastic bags will not be picked up – no exceptions.

Be sure to place your yard waste at least two to three feet from your other refuse. This will alert GFL (Green for Life) Services to the fact that you have materials to be composted, and a separate truck will be sent for pickup. Please be sure there are no other materials mixed in with your grass clippings (i.e., garbage or animal waste). If such materials are present, the grass clippings will not be picked up.

Tree Service
The DPW will remove trees located on city property (between the sidewalk and the street) if they are diseased and/or causing damage to nearby sidewalks or homes. After removal, the remaining stumps will be ground out. Subsequent replacement of soil and sod is the responsibility of the effected homeowner.

The DPW will also trim trees located on city property upon request
