Public Works

The Department of Public Works provides an array of services throughout the year to both the residents and members of Fraser's business community. 

  • Maintaining 73 miles of water main, 63 miles of sanitary sewer, 1,376 sanitary manholes, 74 miles of storm sewers, 1,370 storm sewer manholes and 2,066 catch basins, 8 pump stations, 779 fire hydrants, and 556 gate wells
  • 24/7 on-call water main repair
  • Factoring and jetting sanitary and storm sewers
  • Inspecting infrastructure, including water, sewer, and the pavement of streets, cement sidewalks, and approaches
  • Maintaining nine parks and all out-buildings in the parks, playground equipment, pavilions, walking paths, and the ice rink and prepping baseball diamonds
  • Snow plowing and salting of city streets and city-owned buildings
  • Maintaining and renovating city-owned buildings
  • Street maintenance, including replacement of pavement, curb replacement, and street sweeping
  • Fleet maintenance for police, fire, public works, parks and recreation, and senior busses
  • Weekly brush pickup
  • Removing dead and/or diseased trees in the city right of way
  • Joint sealing of streets
  • Installing, repairing, and reading water meters, including remote system meters
  • Curbside leaf pickup (October through December)
  • Installing and repairing street signs
  • Notifying Detroit Edison of any street lights that are burnt out or working improperly
  • Overseeing trash and recycling pickup performed by GFL Services
